Did you know that many movies have been filmed in Belize?

In our last newsletter, we mentioned that Belize has long been a popular tourist destination.

It is located on the northeast coast of Central America — right next to another vacation hotspot, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Now, Belize continues to expand its reach and popularity as a filming location!

Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee

imageNetflix recently released a documentary entitled, Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee. The trailer features opening shots of our beautiful, sandy shores and those big, Belizean beach houses that I often talk about!

This documentary is about the the story of software pioneer John McAfee, who went on the run after his neighbor was murdered in Belize.

The creator of the McAfee antivirus software company asked a film crew to document his experience as he evaded the authorities and the Mexican cartel, apparently.

The journalists were thrown into McAfee’s whirlwind life as they trekked through Belize and Guatemala before ending up on a boat headed to the Bahamas, all with guns, drugs, and alcohol in tow.

Things really went downhill for McAfee when police in Belize eyed him as a person of interest in the murder of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.

Life’s like a movie! Where’s your next “filming location”?

Things might not be as daring and exciting as “movie-magic” makes it out to be — but Belize is definitely an experience worth trying out!
