19 Jan: Finding Positivity Amidst the Chaos

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years Day. It seems 2021 is picking up where 2020 left off. I try to look for the positive in everything and in 2020, I was able to get grounded, focused, and worked to get organized. I’m on my way with a great team in place to help. The start of 2021 has been a bit emotional. Toward the end of 2020, I lost my dog, Fetch. He was the best dog I have ever owned. I rescued him when I first moved to Belize in February of 2010. He always was happy…

30 Nov: Leaving Belize for a Week and My Return

Normally there are beauty pageants, parades, parties, and celebrations; this year will be very different since we have that pesky COVID-19. Belize is known to be creative, and so we’ll have to see what activities they have planned. On September 2, 2020, we had a CAT 1 hurricane, Nana, hit land. She struck between Dangriga and Placencia, causing debris and fallen trees. For the most part, Nana was mild for a hurricane, and we faired well through…

31 Aug: A Perfect Storm Finds its Way in Belize

Our last COVID-19 Update was on July 16, 2020 and Belize had 37 cases with 2 deaths due to the coronavirus. The Philip Goldson International Airport was to open August 15, 2020. The excitement was growing as the airport was opening and things seemed to be getting back to the “new normal” then the perfect storm happened. We had a few positive cases of the coronavirus. The cases were on repatriated flights back into Belize and those persons would go right into a 14-day quarantine. They were tested and if they were positive, then they were quarantined longer. People began…
